Helpful Homeowner Tips

The following tips have been passed along by Islesworth residents, board members and management at various times. If you have a helpful hint or safety suggestion to pass along, please e-mail Islesworth resident Diane Tomasik. Responses will be compiled here.

CLEANING
GROUT: One resident reports raves about a grout cleaner called ZAP she found at Walmart for less than $5. She says a little ZAP and scrub brush will leave your floor tile grout looking like new.

SPARE PARTS
FLOOR TILE: Heritage Flooring (223-1623), the original contractor from Pulte, still has the ability to find some matching items from homeowners' original tile and grout choices. The company is in Palm City, just over the Turnpike on 42nd Avenue.
INTERIOR DOORS: The interior doors used in our homes are available at SPS in Rio. They are sold primed, as "blanks" (no holes). They have most sizes in stock.

MAILBOXES: The type of mailbox that Islesworth uses is T3 aluminum. The paint color for the mailbox and stand is Benjamin Moore, #916, exterior flat. No other color is permitted. Neither the homeowners association nor property management can recommend any specific contractor to make repairs. However, several residents have found that Treasure Coast Assembly is familiar with the mailboxes in Islesworth and has done several repairs. The phone number is (800) 404-6822.

LANDSCAPING

PALM TREE TIPS: Here are some links to information about Washington palm trees, which were a topic of concern during the Sept. 8 board meeting:

WATER WISELY: Over-watering your lawn can lead to rutting by lawnmowers and create massive amounts of dollar weed. Residents are urged to use rain sensors that would keep irrigation systems turned off if it's raining and prevent destructive over-watering.

SAFETY
PARKING: Parking cars on both sides of the street and across sidewalks is a real safety issue! Those who do it should be more aware of how it affects others.
