Parking and vehicles
Martin Downs Security has asked that people be reminded to lock their
car doors. About two dozen vehicle burglaries were recently reported
throughout Palm City, including one on Captiva Court.
The Board of Directors discussed additions and revisions to the rules
and regulations for parking in Islesworth. A document was approved by the
board and passed along for review by the Islesworth attorney. The approved
rules go into effect June 15, 2007. Click here
to read the new rules.
In the fall, when school resumes, Islesworth will consider setting up a
barricade at the front entrance from 3:30-4:30 p.m. The problem with autos
parking on the Islesworth roadways while waiting to pick up children after
school at Hidden Oaks is an ongoing nuisance and safety concern. Other
measures to lessen the problem have been unsuccessful.
Street lights
The board approved seven new street lights in
Islesworth to illuminate some dark areas. The lights
will be put on one side of the park, four places around
Islesworth Circle, one on Marco Lane and one on Captiva Court. The seven lights will be able to placed where there is immediate access to a transformer, so that no cost for
trenching under roads or sidewalks will have to be done. An eighth light
was considered -- on another side of the park -- but it would require an
expense for digging and conduit. The board postponed approval of this
installation.
Fences
The board approved purchase of coating/sealing material for the new
fence along Sunset Trail.
Islesworth is going to seek pricing on materials and labor to reinforce
the wood fencing around the community. The work was suggested to reinforce
the fences during hurricane season.
A resident raised a concern about the gap between Islesworth fences and
the wall constructed by the Murano subdivision. The 3-foot gap is not
maintained, and the resident has found dangerous snakes in that area.
Board President Dennis Rohan said he will get in touch with Murano and see
if that community will take care of maintaining the area.
Landscaping
The Board of Directors approved a landscaping proposal along the fence
bordering Hidden Oaks Middle School. Islesworth received a settlement from
the school district to replace the trees and shrubs that a school district
contractor removed several months ago.
Further bids and proposals will be sought for landscaping the fence
line along Sunset Trail. That project may have to wait until the next
budget year.
The Board also approved the pruning, re-shaping and hurricane-trimming
of trees throughout Islesworth.
