Grounds and landscaping
The Martin County School Board has not responded to Islesworth's
request to replace landscaping or reimburse us for the bushes and trees
removed along the border with Hidden Oaks Middle School. A school district
contractor tore out the plants when replacing the fence between Islesworth
and Hidden Oaks. Islesworth submitted a proposal of $15,000 to the School
Board for irrigation and landscaping. Because of the lack of response, the
Islesworth Board of Directors made a motion to pursue legal action against
the school district for the reimbursement.
Our landscape contractor, Kickin' Grass, presented an estimate for
landscaping along the newly installed fence backing on to Sunset Trail.
The proposal was set aside for the Landscaping Committee to review it.
Next on the landscaping plan is replacing trees around the lakes.
Arrangements have been made to have all stumps ground that remain in the
ground following damage from the hurricanes.
Property manager Don Lifland is examining options for treating the park
area for fire ants. He also is addressing the repeated burn-out of the
lights along the front wall.
Parking committee
Three volunteers have been approved for the new Parking Committee: Mrs.
Hatcher, Mrs. Meara and Mrs. Duckson. The board formed the committee in
order to develop parking regulations that are in line with the rest of the
Martin Downs Property Owners Association communities.
One of the committee's first policy considerations will be to define
what constitutes a "commercial vehicles," which are not allowed
according Islesworth Rules & Regulations.
Residents also are reminded that golf carts are not allowed to be
driven in Islesworth.
Street lights
Board president Dennis Rohan has met with FPL to install eight new street lights in
Islesworth to illuminate some dark areas. The lights
will be put in two areas on either side of the park, four places around
Islesworth Circle, one on Marco Lane and one on Captiva Court. Seven of
the lights will be able to placed where there is immediate access to a transformer, so that no cost for
trenching under roads or sidewalks will have to be done. Only one of the
lights will require some digging and conduit. Otherwise, the lights will
be installed at no cost by FPL.
Martin Downs Country Club membership proposal
A survey presented in the Islesworth
Eye newsletter regarding a discounted membership rate to Martin Downs
Country Club facilities met with opposition. The offer was simply
presented to see if there was interest in the community. It appears there
is little interest, and a two-thirds majority would be needed to proceed.
Mailbox review
The maintenance of mailboxes is becoming a concern once again. Property
manager Don Lifland said the handyman who does work for Islesworth and
Capital Realty Advisors can help residents repair their mailboxes. Please
